The dance team danced at the Homecoming assembly and during the Homecoming halftime show.

The Special Olympics basketball game featured the dance team Thursday (Nov. 17) for its second performance.

“The dance team has generated lots of interest,” Coach Lisa LeMahieu said.

They had danced at the Homecoming assembly and during the Homecoming halftime show.

A couple years ago there was a dance team, but the students did not take much interest. LeMahieu was approached by Kate Dietzen, senior, about what she could do to make the dance team happen. Within a week Dietzen had eagerly finished the requirements and the dance team was on its way.

A total of 21 girls dedicated their Friday and Sunday nights creating a routine and practicing for the homecoming show.

“I thought it would be something fun to join my senior year and it was definitely out of my comfort zone,” Hope DeShaney, senior, said. DeShaney described that the student body was not ready for what they had received during the Homecoming assembly.

As of right now the dance team is considered a club, which was a compromise so the girls could participate while they were in a sport, with the permission of their coaches.

They are also considering dancing at a boys basketball game in the future, but that has not yet been finalized.

Many other schools in the Fox Valley also have Dance Teams such as: Fox Valley Lutheran, Appleton North, Little Chute and Oshkosh West.
