The NHS drama club production of Seussical: The Musical premiered on Friday, Oct. 11 and ran three times throughout the weekend. It is a mashup of several famous Dr. Seuss books adapted to play, including Horton Hears a Who, Green Eggs and Ham, The Grinch and others.
Walking into the play, I was immediately surprised by the bright lights on the stage, the colorful backgrounds and the yellow slide to my right. The opening act was brilliantly executed and the play itself never failed to entertain. All cast members did their parts perfectly, and it looked like they had practiced them for a long time. While I found the play’s strobe lights and smoke to be somewhat overstimulating, this did not take away from the experience.
The white bracelets, which made their debut at the 2019 Homecoming Dance returned for Seussical. At various times throughout the play, they began to change colors based on the theme of the scene. Looking around at the audience, I witnessed a sea of color. The many children in the audience got excited by it, which promoted audience engagement. Lastly, the pit orchestra playing live music added to an already amazing play.
