Homecoming at NHS in early October was extremely popular among students. Last year’s theme was “The Comeback,” created to promote a growth in overall student involvement in homecoming. This year’s theme was “The Momentum” – as in a continuing growth of “The Comeback” theme.

Not only did the goal of an even greater homecoming become a reality, but it far exceeded students’ expectations. Students expressed in multiple ways how pleased they were with the events.

The drive-in movie to start the week was as big of a hit as last year, drawing large crowds to parking lot B to watch Finding Nemo on the big screen. The powderpuff game mid-week kept homecoming spirits high, and the Fifth Quarter night games event was well-attended at Memorial Park. A large crowd of students decked out in red and white attended the football game and the tailgate party beforehand to cheer on the Rockets, and even though it was raining, the floats in the homecoming parade were some of the best Neenah has ever seen, with Drama Club even renting a flatbed semi trailer to house their float. Students also participated in the dress-up days in greater numbers than seen in previous years. In many ways, “The Momentum” was even more successful than “The Comeback” in getting students involved in and excited about homecoming. But the highlight of this year’s homecoming was, without a doubt, Saturday’s dance. The atmosphere, lighting and music this year was excellent, with Drama department faculty doing a fantastic job as DJs. Everyone at the dance appeared to be having a great time, and student turnout was much greater this year than in years past. Although rumors circulated that a teacher failed in her duties to watch the punch bowl, the Satellite is confirming that a punch bowl never existed that evening.  The dance stayed safe and under control, which allowed the students to have fun and the staff to be more relaxed.

“The Momentum” hit the whole spectrum for NHS students this year, allowing for an awesome homecoming 2014 and bright prospects for homecomings to come.
