Stompin’ at the Savoy 2023 Proves Successful
January 21, 2023
Visitors of all ages chomped on cookies and stomped at the 2023 Stompin’ at the Savoy event held in the cafeteria on Jan. 21. Entertained by vocalist and instrumental performances from members of NHS’s Intermediate and Advanced Jazz ensembles, the visitors danced to songs of highly varying speeds.
Publicity leading up to the event proclaimed that the NHS cafeteria would be transformed into the “world’s finest ballroom of the swing era.” Guests sat at candle-lit tables as bright purple lights illuminated the music stage. NHS band director David Dunning was not shy in recognizing the contributions of the school drama department in the rigging and operation of the event’s equipment, as well as the National Honor Society for supplying volunteers to staff the event and serve the visitors.
“I think everyone has done a really good job in the band. They really brought the energy up with the dancing. I thought that everyone just had a really good time,” Nick Kaiser, a sophomore who attended the event, said.
He also complimented the trumpet performance by his brother, Joe, and the vocal soloist Waylon Miller, both seniors.
