Winterfest Assembly Photo Series: Miracle Minute Celebrates #OrbitLegacy
February 20, 2023
While NHS students celebrated Winterfest week, they mourned the loss of a valued NHS staff member. Students and staff were informed on Monday that Christine Christensen passed on Feb. 4.
Mrs. Christensen was a guidance counselor at the high school for nearly a decade, and during her time at the high school, she created and fostered many positive changes. For instance, she organized and participated in the Runner’s High organization, giving teens struggling with substance abuse another outlet to direct their energy. Furthermore, Mrs. Christensen also organized donations for the Orbit, helping community members in need get essential items.
The Miracle Minute represents a fundraising tradition of NHS, only used for special cases during school assemblies and games to help the greater community. Thanks to Mrs. Christensen’s long-term dedication to the Orbit and the kindness she inspired, donations totaled $476.63. CAPP Speech students, holding buckets and running amongst the crowds of students, collected this money.
The donations were given to the Orbit to help the larger community in Mrs. Christensen’s honor. Of the donations gathered, there were 188 one-dollar bills.
“This massively successful fundraiser demonstrates the power of community, and the good individuals can all do collectively,” Elaina Plankey, one of the student collectors for the donations, said.
