Powerlifters Persevere through Polar Plunge

February 13, 2023

The annual Polar Plunge took place on Saturday, Feb. 11 — allowing many plungers from different organizations to plunge into ice-cold Wisconsin winter water.

The Polar Plunge is not only a relaxing ice bath; it is a fundraiser for various teams and activities. The funds generated during the event go into supporting the Special Olympics of Wisconsin.

Senior Eion Hinkle helped organize and raise money for the polar plunge. He expressed gratitude in support of a worthy cause and toward his donors.

In this event, there were a total of seven powerlifters who plunged, including the coach, Joe Lewis, a current 6th-grade social studies teacher. The athlete names are as follows:

Leo DeLeon                                    Tye Pokorny

Marissa Derouso                          Adie Paulson

Rylee Ehlke                                    Kacie Stamm

Eion Hinkle                                     Carter Zoz

I love the photo of the polar bear’s head — the lighthearted ‘what about it’ challenging stance makes for such an absurd moment.

This is such a fun and cool tradition! Not only does it pull citizens in from around the community to participate, but it also gives back to the community in a gracious way. This article captured the event perfectly, and the added photos were very entertaining.
