The College and Career Fair returned to NHS on the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 21 where every student had the opportunity to speak with and learn about colleges, businesses and scholarship organizations to help them prepare for life after high school.
Fair organizer (guidance counselor) Mrs. Marcy Bauman expressed the value of providing student access to future planning resources.
The students started out with a presentation in Pickard Auditorium from representatives of their companies to give some advice to the students that they wished to share. After the presentation, students filed into the Ron Einerson Fieldhouse to visit with any of the 53 different booths from post-secondary education, military or community businesses that were there to represent themselves.
The guidance team, including Bauman and Mrs. Lori Uvaas, organized the entire group. Bauman shared that organization were selected to appeal to a wide variety of student interests.
The post-secondary education booths consisted of UW-Fox Valley, UW-Green Bay, UW-La Crosse, UW-Madison, UW-Milwaukee, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Parkside, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Whitewater, Fox Valley Technical College, Bellin, Cardinal Stritch, Carroll, Carthage, Concordia, Edgewood, Lakeland, Lawrence, Marian, Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design, Northland, Ripon, Viterbo, Wisconsin Lutheran and Globe. The military was represented by the Army, Marines, National Guard, Navy and West Point. The community businesses there were ABC Apprenticeship & Training, Alta Resources, Bay Lakes Council, Bemis, Boldt, Bridgewood Premier, Colt’s Timeless Tattoos, Early Learning Center, Fabco, Fox Communities Credit Union, Georgia Pacific, Gulf Stream, Miller Electric, Miron Construction, Motion Works, Neenah Police, Oshkosh Fire, Plexus, Ruff House, School Specialty, Thrivent, Timber Rattlers and Wisconsin DNR.
The experience was described as a success for all who were involved. “It was a terrific experience. A lot of friendly and upbeat people stopped by to learn,” said Kris Sopel, Intern Program Leader from Thrivent. All of the schools and businesses agreed to participate again.
