Students at NHS are encompassed by music-themed projects and performances because of “Music In Our Schools” Month.
March is “Music In Our Schools” month, and musicians at NHS as well as their peers are being affected. Musicians participated in Solo and Ensemble on the first Saturday of the month, performing their orchestral, band and vocal skills for judges at Oshkosh West High School. The students from NHS mustered a great deal of courage to perform their solos and ensembles for strangers, specifically musically talented judges who critiqued the students’ pieces.
The month of March also brought various musical performances for musicians and audiences to enjoy. According to the Neenah Joint School District website, Spring Road elementary students performed in Pickard Auditorium, and the string ensemble Touch of Class played in Pickard Lobby before their concert. Additionally, on March 17, Neenah High’s Wind Symphony performed in Pickard Lobby and different musical ensembles from NHS will perform in Pickard Lobby for elementary students to see.
Keeping musicians busier yet, band, choir and orchestra students were assigned a project to honor “Music In Our Schools” month. The pupils were given a choice of themes revolved around music and how it makes one feel, and the task of the students was to create a poster or essay on the chosen theme.
A winner from each department of music is chosen based on things like creativity, conventions and timeliness. Now the posters are hanging up in the Link, creating an interesting view for students walking from class to class. Many musicians are not only talented with notes but with art, as is shown by the beautiful posters on the walls.
