Culinary Club Gears Up for Busy Year
New and exciting culinary opportunities are on the rise as NHS culinary club gains members.
In previous years because of the lack of interest and funding, culinary club has only attended a maximum of three competitions a year. After receiving a grant last year which allowed the team to buy all new uniforms and equipment, the club is gaining popularity at 15 members. With the help of local chefs, the club plans to send two different teams to various competitions this year.
Another exciting opportunity coming up includes pairing art club and culinary club to create gingerbread houses. The goal is to create multiple gingerbread houses to display in windows downtown Neenah at the iconic Live Mannequin event.
Deb Garbe, Culinary arts teacher and club leader said, “The local culinary establishments have supported our program. Each year there are an increasing amount of opportunities for students.”
With new members and skill sets, the culinary team hopes to take home a trophy at their first competition this year, the Chile Throwdown at the Grand Meridian in Appleton on Nov. 14. Students and staff are encouraged to come watch the team compete, tickets for the event will be sold by Culinary club members in mid October.
