Winterfest Week Coming Soon

Although Winterfest celebrations at NHS are coming up quickly, details seem to be a matter of confusion for some students and staff.

According to the Winterfest planning committee, here is an overview. Winterfest will take place starting on Feb. 8 and concluding on Feb. 13. There will be dress up spirit days, but the dates have not yet been decided. The dance to conclude the week has the theme of “Cabin Fever.” The formality of the dance is still pending.

The decision has not been made because of a basketball game scheduled for the same night. A committee of students is working with the staff to reschedule the game. The verdict will determine the formality. If the game can be rescheduled, then it will be a formal event. If the game time does not change, then it will become an informal dance.

Some of the ideas for dress up days for the week leading up to the dance, derived from a survey posted in Schoology, include: pajama day, USA day, wacky-socks day, tie-die day and 1980s day. The specific dates of each will be determined shortly.

In addition to dress up days and the dance, there will also be various activities after school, which require student participation. On Monday, the student council will be hosting a badminton tournament. On Thursday, Eco Club will be running the first ever trivia night. Also, staff will be holding a recipe contest in the Staff Lounge on Friday.  Last year’s winner, Mrs. Lisa Dohr, will soon confirm the theme of this year’s contest.

These events are made possible thanks to student volunteers. If you wish to volunteer at one of the various events please contact the NHS Student Council or a member of the Winterfest Committee.
