The NHS Debate team competed at Brookfield East on Oct. 20, sweeping the competition.

Maddie Alft, senior and captain, snatched first speaker and first place with a 4-1 record in Varsity Lincoln-Douglas.

“It is exciting to see how successful we have become and it fills me with so much hope for the rest of the season, especially with some of the larger tournaments coming up,” Alft said in reflection on the win.

Lorelei Kutchek, freshman, took both first speaker and first place with a 4-1 record as well, in Novice Lincoln-Douglas.  Also in Novice Lincoln-Douglas, Will Ranger, freshman, took fifth speaker and third in division, while Grace Look, freshman, placed fourth in division.  Both succeeded with 4-1 records.  In Novice Policy, Elrik Dunn, freshman, placed first, and Alex Fahrenkrug, freshman, placed fifth.  Faith Demerath, freshman, competed as well.

With Brookfield East behind them, the debaters are currently preparing for the upcoming month and two national tournaments.  Their determination and talent is limitless– inarguably.
