Ambitious Man Takes up Many Careers Prior to Teaching Science
October 19, 2019
Carpenter, pharmacist, teacher – oh my! Mr. Jesse Schettle is a man of many interests.
Growing up, Schettle initially wanted to be a carpenter; remodeling houses and living out his imagination. Once he entered high school, however, his plans change and his interest in the medical field sparked. Schettle went on to college studying pre-pharmacy.
During his first spring break in college, he spends a week with his cousin who is a pharmacist. When day three crawls around, he immediately lacks interest. Organizing pills and disputing with the elderly is not his forte. Schettle opens a new door to education.
He tutors peers throughout high school, so teaching isn’t new to him. After teaching at NHS for four years, Schettle receives an amazing opportunity with Oshkosh Accelerating Nursing Program. He obtains his four-year Nursing degree in one year.
NHS offers him a part-time position and one year off as long as he came back and works wherever they needed him. He takes this time and works in the medical field, dealing with many exciting experiences in the emergency room. He likes the simplicity of punching in for the day, working a shift, and quickly punching out at the end. However, he goes back to education knowing that nursing will always be there as a backup plan.
In the end, he loves the decision he made.
“If I wasn’t happy, I would be doing something else. I wouldn’t change anything.”
The never-ending joy that comes with teaching is something that keeps him going. Pushing students toward greatness and opening their eyes to new ideas is fun for him. Although his career adventure is long, he knows that it all fell into place exactly as it should.
