Best Online Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

Chocolate Chip Cookies

According to Kitchenproject.com, chocolate chip cookies were invented in 1930 at the Toll House Inn by Ruth Wakefield. They were a mistake as she was trying to mix the chocolate in completely to create an entirely chocolate cookie. 

Many people have since then changed, improved and completely messed up the chocolate chip cookie recipe. I took it upon myself to find three online recipes, make them, and have people decide which one was the best. 

The first recipe is from allrecipes.com 

-1 cup butter, softened 

-1 cup butter, softened

-1 cup white sugar

-1 cup packed brown sugar

-2 eggs

-2 teaspoons vanilla extract

-1 teaspoon baking soda

-2 teaspoons hot water

-1/2 teaspoon salt

-3 cups all-purpose flour

-2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

 

The second recipe is from Sugar Spun Run 

-1 cup unsalted butter melted and then cooled for at least 5 minutes* (226g)

-1 1/2 cups light brown sugar packed (300g)

-1/2 cup granulated sugar (100g)

-2 large eggs room temperature preferred

-1 teaspoon vanilla extract

-3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (415g)

-2 teaspoons cornstarch

-1 teaspoon baking powder

-1 teaspoon baking soda

-1 teaspoon salt

-2 cups chocolate chips 

 

The final recipe is the original Toll House recipe 

-2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

-1 teaspoon baking soda

-1 teaspoon salt

-1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened

-3/4 cup granulated sugar

-3/4 cup packed brown sugar

-1 teaspoon vanilla extract

-2 large eggs

-2 cups (12-oz. pkg.) NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels

 

After a few attempts to figure out the right way to make cookies as I am not traditionally in the kitchen I was able to make the three separate batches of cookies.

The first batch ( from allrecipes.com) turned out well, the cookies were thinner but incredibly good. They baked evenly and were overall a kick with everyone who tried them.

The recipe from Sugar Spun Run was a little more difficult to make because the dough thickened up  quickly and then had to be wrapped and chilled in the fridge for a half-hour. After waiting for the dough to chill I put it in the oven only to notice it took the longest to bake out of the three batches. Once they were done they did not look like the standard chocolate chip cookie, they remained in more of a ball shape rather than flattening out and were not smooth on top. Personally, this was my least favorite of the three cookies. 

Finally, the original Toll House recipe 

This recipe went really well as far as prep goes. It was simple, fast and did need a whole lot of ingredients. Unfortunately, once these cookies were put in the oven they spread out very far, causing most of them to get stuck together and have to be cut apart. Once the cookies cooled and were ready to be eaten they were more crunchy than soft. I liked these, but not as much as the first batch.
