Homecoming launched significant changes last year within the school with its “Comeback” theme; this year the community will be guided by a sense of “Momentum.”
Homecoming week this year features spirit days and student-sponsored events each evening to raise money for the special needs program. The donations and to the program are being made in memory of Alisha Hasse, an NHS senior , who died recently in a car accident. Hasse deeply valued the efforts of the special needs program at Neenah High.
As the student body continues the sense of community and service established by “The Comeback,” NHS is striving to create homecoming traditions to engage the entire community.
The Council of Councils is a newly-formed group placed in charge of homecoming planning this year. It was formed of leaders from several different clubs, with seniors Aaron Kubiak and Celia Nalbach leading the decision-making efforts.
Principal Brian Wunderlich and the members of the Council of Councils are continuing to encourage the student body and community to get involved, and have multiple after-school events planned for the week (See chart below for details). Wunderlich noted that this year is less focused on raising money and more about having fun. The goal of “The Momentum” is to unify the community and make lasting memories of homecoming.
The council created a video that was shown in all second mod classes on Tuesday, Sept. 23 to get students excited about “The Momentum.” It stressed becoming involved with homecoming, including a special appeal to underclassmen to get involved early and not wait until their senior year. The council also created a flyer showcasing the week’s activities that allows the student body to be informed and engaged.
Principal Wunderlich noted that he has enjoyed working with the Council of Councils as it strives for another memorable homecoming week here at NHS.
