As colleges target strong students to compete themselves, admissions focus on the basics of academics but extracurriculars speak to whom the student is.
The picture of a perfect candidate for universities is both strong academically and also involved around the school. Activities Director, Mr. Nate Werner said, “Activities look good on an application.”
The activities that students put on their application demonstrates what they are dedicated to, and it offers a sense of flair to the admissions board. Leadership roles are crucial for an exemplary application.
Fortunately, Neenah High School offers dozens of programs to make students successful. A few academic extracurriculars are Student Council, National Honor Society, Debate, Science Olympiad and numerous others. In addition, success in sports is also recognized. Athletic engagement demonstrates commitment. Mrs. Marcy Bauman adds, “Leadership roles in clubs look excellent.”
Students should look at activities that will prepare them for a future career. It is also important to add some originality to an application. As Mrs. Lori Uvaas said, “Little things are sometimes taken for granted.” She advises that seemingly little experiences have the potential to that set students apart from others; it may pay off.
