Hertting was named, The Post-Crescent diver of the year.
For many, diving is just another sport. For senior Hazel Hertting, it is more.
She has been diving in the Fox Valley Diving Club for 10 years and has made plans to be a part of the UW-Madison dive team next year. Last year, she won the WIAA state diving title as a member of the NHS diving team. This year, not only did she win once again, but she beat the diving record with a total score of 576.45!
Also joining Hertting on the diving team this year was senior Kaitlin Miller; the amount of practice these two put in was about an hour and a half a day. Tim Foulks, the diving coach at NHS, says that he has seen the number of the people on the diving team be anywhere from 2 to 8 people.
If interested in the diving team, Hazel’s advice is: “Never give up.” She also stated that “It’s fun to be part of a team.”
No previous diving experience would be needed if students want to join the team here at NHS according to the coach.
