Nigerian Exchange Student Wants to Experience It All
NHS is always fortunate to have foreign exchange students in classrooms to share their cultures and experiences; NHS is excited to have Ene Adole enrolled this school year.
Adole, from Benue, Nigeria, is a junior and is currently living with Peter and Jessica Zwaska. Benue is located in the Northern part of Nigeria, which is bigger than Neenah.
Adole first arrived to America on Aug. 21 and will be here for eight more months before heading home and continuing her final year of school then graduating. She says NHS is different because they have the teachers switch classrooms while the students stay in one room. Adole also goes to a boarding school, so she lives at school for about three months at a time then goes home for three or four weeks. They also wear uniforms and not personal clothing while in classes.
Studying abroad can be a hard choice for even the most adventurous people. Adole chose to study abroad in order to experience the lives of different people and their cultures. “I also want to know what it feels like to live away from home!” she says with a slight laugh.
Running is something Adole really enjoys doing and she has gotten involved in the cross country team. Adole says she is not planning on getting involved in anything else, although she would love to learn how to ice skate sometime this winter.
“Actually everything is done differently here from my country, so I cannot really tell of one particular difference,” she says with a smile when asked to describe some differences between America and Nigeria.
She is hoping to learn all she can about American culture and create some solid and lasting friendships with the people she meets throughout her stay.
Adole shared that her favorite part of America so far is how friendly everyone is. She also loves how many options are provided to try new things.
Adole says she cannot wait to be back home because she misses her family greatly, but she is loving the adventures America has to offer.
