Senior Matthew Kemper has been a significant student leader for the past few years. He uses his leadership skill set at NHS from planning the homecoming events, to running the student store, otherwise known as the Launch Pad. He really does it all here with a vision of community.

Homecoming includes planning, which started in June and consisted of many meetings. During homecoming week, he made sure everything was going smoothly and all the volunteers and such were doing their jobs.

Kemper was also asked to be the MC or host of the teacher convocation, which is the welcoming back to school of the teachers. He introduced the teachers and told his story about how many opportunities this school district has given him and also thanked the teachers for helping him along the way.

“This is my second home,” Kemper said. With three years under his belt, he wants to make the most of his senior, and he also says that he wants to give back to the school.  Although Kemper is often also called a leader by peers and the NHS community, he does not really think of himself as a leader. He embraces and accepts that people refer to him as one externally.  Internally, however, he struggles with his desire that he can do more.

Kemper shared his definition of a leader:  “A student leader is someone that has an idea or creative way to enhance something in the school, make it better, and accomplish it.”

He agrees he has done some of these things. Kemper’s bright ideas and leadership make him feel good about what he is doing, which is providing happiness and hopefully changing lives on a small scale here in Neenah.

The NHS community looks forward to Kemper’s future influence on events such as Winterfest and Prom. He also says keep a lookout for another Phase 2 appearance at NHS. He is always looking for ideas to make the school a better place, so if he is presented with opportunities he will definitely consider them.

Kemper loves to see new faces, meet new people and gather new ideas to promote a sense of NHS community.
