NHS: Now and Then

image4NHS has changed so much since when it was first built.

In the beginning, the school did not connect connect Armstrong to Conant. In fact, the high school actually used to be the administration building, built in 1907.

After the high school moved out of the administration building, it moved into Shattuck. Shattuck was built either in 1929. They stayed in the Shattuck building until around the ’60s, then moved to this location where the high school is now.

Armstrong was built in 1972 and was named after the famous astronaut, Neil Armstrong. Before Armstrong, many high schoolers had to walk outside to get from Conant to Armstrong, and vice versa. The building was originally built for 1,500 students.

Important events that went on at the time of the school first being built were things such as President Nixon visited China, the spacecraft Pioneer 10 was launched to explore Jupiter, the longest Apollo moon visit ends. Many teachers have passed in and out of this school, hundreds of thousands of guests, and more importantly, the students of the N.J.S.D who have visited the classrooms daily.
