Letter: Water and Its Benefits

Dear Editor:

Water is an essential liquid for all things living. According to an article “Importance of water and human health” water is made up of 2 parts hydrogen and 1 part oxygen. Recently some controversy exists about if water is actually giving you the benefits they say it is. But do not set down your glass of water just yet. They used to say drink eight glasses of water a day. Even though you do not need to drink eight glasses any more it benefits your health tremendously. Think of water as a nutrient your body needs. You lose so much water each day through sweat and urination, so you need to replenish it.

Water enhances your metabolism and makes you feel full. If you replace your soft drink at dinner with a glass of water it will make you feel more full, and you will lose weight over time according to “7 Science-Based Health Benefits of Drinking Enough Water.” Water affects the metabolism because if your glass of water is icy cold it will make your body work harder to warm up the water, burning a few calories in the process.

If you are ever feeling depleted drink a glass of water. Dehydration can make you feel tired or pooped out. The right amount of water can help your heart pump blood more effectively according to a recent article in The Huffington Post. Along with transporting oxygen and nutrients throughout your body. Because your brain tissue is 70-80% water, lack of water can make you stressed. If you are feeling stressed keep a glass of water around or bring a sports bottle and sip it regularly.

Water is nature’s beauty cream. Drinking water can hydrate your skin cells and can improve color and texture according to “10 Life-Changing Reasons to Drink More Water.” It also flushes impurities and improves circulation to make your skin feel and look better. Alongside circulation water helps prevent muscle cramps and when you are hydrated you can exercise longer and harder.

Most healthy adults get enough water by letting their thirst guide them. But the exact amount you need is based upon your size, their level of activity, and the general health of the person. Water is an essential nutrient to every human, animal and plant. Many benefits exist such as enhances metabolism, burns calories, makes you feel more energetic, and looks better. People who do not drink enough water need to take action and start a new good habit to support their health and lifestyle.

Sincerely,
