Loving “The American Dream”
From Slovakia to Wisconsin, foreign exchange student Barbara Simon is loving the American life.
Since Simon was young, she wanted to experience the American life that she saw in movies.
“The communication barrier is not a huge problem,” Simon said with confidence. Simon is empowered by the fact that she knows Hungarian, Slovak, German and English.
Multiple languages were mandatory to take in Slovakia. In fact, Simon embraces that she gets to choose what classes she wants to take at NHS. She said at home she did not have a choice in classes in which she was enrolled.
Simon is enjoying her time with her host family, the Stielows. She misses her family and friends and the healthy food back home, but she loves Culver’s. Her favorites are cheese curds and the concrete mixers.
Simon is participating in AFS club and plans to join powerlifting and lacrosse. She is excited to finish her year at NHS and experience more of “The American Dream.”
