Column: Talking Badminton
A conversation with Jerry Rott, founder of Badminton Club.
Anyone who has ever started a club knows one thing: it can be exhausting. More than exhausting actually, it can be dispiriting. Low turn out because of potential members having conflicts or general non-interest can be the death of a start-up club. While some clubs drop off the map, the founder of the newly formed Badminton Club is determined for that not to be the case.
I had the chance to interview the founder of Neenah’s newest club: Jerry Rott, sophomore. When I asked Rott if he thought the first meeting was successful he replied with a laugh, “For what I was expecting– sure” and went on to say humorously that, “It’s fun…yeah…that’s it.” He continued to explain that more members were needed so the club could hold tournaments. That is not to say amateurs and beginners are not welcome. “You don’t need to have any experience,” Rott said.
Currently, the club has held one official meeting, and plans to continue holding regular meetings after school Wednesday from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m.
