Student’s Passion for Pickard
With passion as her guide, senior Abbe Lane, who is the student director of the fall musical, spends countless hours within Pickard.
She recently directed Damn Yankees.
Lane understands the difficulty behind juggling Pickard shows and daily life; however, unlike the actors or crew members, the weight of the performance rests on her shoulders.
At times, Lane expresses that the stress is almost too much, but “when you see the chaos finally sorted out, it makes it all worth it.” Occasionally, it is difficult to maintain the crew’s focus, Lane explains.
The ambiance of theater provides for a place of acceptance and allows her to express her true self; contrary to sports where she felt as though she was judged on the little things and did not feel like she belonged.
Earlier, Lane participated in sports, though she did not feel included. She admits that she wishes she had time for other activities, but when she is in the theater, she knows it is her home.
“There’s no other place I’d rather be.”
Aside from theater, Lane discusses the other activities she participates in, such as the Rocket News and Vintage. She continuously puts forth 100 percent into all activities in which she participates, so she lacks a significant amount of free time.
Even outside of the theater walls, Lane bubbles with excitement anytime someone talks about the show. Her passion is contagious! She believes in every ounce of the theaters potential and pursues it with her whole heart, which makes her admirable.
Lane hopes to continue working on shows after high school. Her dream is to be accepted into University of Minnesota Twin Cities or Ripon College in order to continue on with theater.
Thanks to the help of Abbe Lane, the countless hours of rehearsal never go to waste and allow for amazing shows.
