For Kyler Lasee, art comes naturally.

It’s as easy as adding.

Everything in her life is art based. Inspiration comes simply from nature, landscapes and her pets.

When thinking about her future, art related concepts dominate — an art therapist is her first career choice.

Hearing about the newly created NHS Art Team, Kyler jumps at the opportunity. She fights for a position on the 12-person team and eventually receives an e-mail.

As she makes her way to the first meeting, she adjusts her over sized flannel and graphic tee. Upon arrival, she learns she did not make the team. Kyler is an alternate; however, she is told that a chance exists for her to make the team. After a long process of voting and art sharing, the adviser, Ms. Emma Santiago, informs the group that Kyler will be joining the Art Team.

This is a stepping stone leading to her future.

Kyler wants to have her artwork seen by others to not only help her artistic career, but to inspire others as well. She wants everyone to see and sprout from the artistic abilities they have.

“Other people can live an artistic life by, not necessarily drawing or painting, but by singing or writing poetry. Everyone views things differently. They can use that to their advantage.”

She sees this in lower level art classes.

She says that some students come because of their passion for art, whereas others use it as an easy A class. Seeing all the different types of people prove her point that people are creative, but they express themselves in their own way.

As Kyler begins the next step of her artistic journey, joining the Art Team is only the beginning of her creative impact on the world.
