Change is nothing new to Ines Gautier; she is used to constant change and has even grown to like it.

Gautier currently resides in Mallorca, Spain. Although, she lived in many places before including France.

Gautier chose to pursue this adventure to broaden her skills and to find herself and what she values in life. With her love of horseback riding, she is enlightened to know that the sport is popular in the United States.

“I was nervous, but I was excited about the opportunity.”

Eager to experience a new culture, she did not mind that she got assigned to somewhere she has never heard of before.

One thing in particular that surprised Gautier is the change in weather.  In contrast, according to Nations Encylopedia, Spain’s average temperature is around 66 degrees.

According to The Travel Magazine, Mallorca is in fact breathtakingly stunning. From deserted white sand beaches to craggy pine-clad mountain ranges, the exquisite architecture of historic buildings to flower-filled fields heavy with citrus trees.  “Mallorca offers every kind of beauty for everyone.”

Unfortunately, Gautier has to buy a whole new wardrobe just to satisfy the inhospitable Wisconsin weather. Although Gautier is used to bright blue days, she is ready to face the white snowy days with her positive and courageous attitude.

Instantly, Gautier made good friends sharing that American people are very friendly. She decided to join AFS Club and Latino Club and really enjoys them.

Gautier also mentioned that one of the first things she noticed is how the average American dresses. In Spain, they tend to dress up for everyday occasions while in America we tend to wear sporty-type clothing.

Gautier is also intrigued by American food compared with Spain’s. The first time she visited a local restaurant, she is stunned by the portions. Gautier said that food is one of the biggest culture changes. In Spain, they eat almost half of what Americans eat on a regular day.

“I felt like I was living in luxury with all the different food options.”

For example, in Spain, students go to school from 8-2 p.m. and do not eat until they get home.

Evidently, she is quickly becoming accustomed to the new menu and is enjoying the culture change.

“Sure I miss my friends and family but why would I pass up this experience.”

Gautier plans to stay senior year and possibly complete her first year of college as well.  Gautier’s family back home is completely behind her ,and they want her to enjoy her experiences here.

She is looking forward to the future and is excited to experience even more American culture.
