Hard work, dedication and an outstanding perspective on what school really means, takes the hand of a senior who accelerates in school.

Quinn Parker is one of three NHS students who qualified for the National Merit Scholarship, a program which offers students different scholarship awards. Last year, The Post-Crescent noted three semifinalists for the award from the Fox Valley. His journey to being nominated for this award brought forth many new obstacles and experiences to share.

Parker’s academic success launched in elementary school. The nominee claims that the help he received at a young age gave him opportunities to prove himself and to grow into the student he is today. Gifted Talented and the Magnet program were beneficial for him in his childhood.

Unlike many other kids, Parker enjoys his time improving his academics and helping with others. He claims that helping others only made himself more successful. Furthermore, he goes onto say how thrilled and excited he is to be in the running for this award. But assures that his passion and diligence does not go unnoticed.

“I worked very hard for this and seeing it payoff really makes me feel good,” Parker says trying to hide a grin.

At the same time he qualifies for the award, college opportunities begin to open like a gate. Parker not only is ecstatic about his qualifications, but also what there is to offer at the collegiate level. When asked where a dream school would be, Parker did not skip a beat on his rebuttal.

“The University of Chicago is where I want to be. It is a really nice school that offers a great atmosphere to students.”

The community of students that support each other catches the eye. Parker is excited to learn more as he plans to further education at a school that does not act as a typical partying university. He wants to major in mathematics or go into Premedical studies. Wisconsin and Northwestern were among the other schools considered.

With a bright future in front of himself, the academic wizard looks forward to many new experiences that will continue to shape the student he aspires to be.
