Student Details His Accident with Drunk Driver
Only 10 seconds can change the remainder of a person’s life.
Like any other night Max Nail decides to go for a drive in his new Audi. Out of nowhere his windshield shatters, airbag deploys and he is sent drifting uncontrollably into a tree.
Max is hit by a drunk driver.
The drunk driver runs a stop sign and hits Max without touching his brake.
“I remember thinking in the middle of the accident that my dad was going to kill me.”
The drunk driver continues to hit the gas after smashing into Max, barreling into Max like a freight train until he is sandwiched into a tree.
Broken glass everywhere.
Max stumbles out of his car like the drunk man who hits him, still in a daze from his severe concussion. He is greeted by the drunk driver, who begs him not to call the cops. Max is unsure what to do but little did he know a bystander already places a call.
After the incident Max finds out this is the guy’s fourth OWI, he is on probation for possession of cocaine, he has no license, and he is driving his girlfriend’s car without insurance.
The day this man enters prison for one and a half years is a bittersweet moment for Max because he wants justice served, but he also does not get his compensation money until his sentence is served.
Max suffers long-term effects. Much like a soldier has PTSD from the war, he gets jumpy every time he is in a busy intersection.
Luckily he is not driving with anyone that night or police officers predict death on impact.
This could happen to anyone of us; Max is just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
