Breakdown of Each Criterion (Photo by: Ava Yoblonski)

Now the quest for the perfect sub unfolds, to stray from the usual same sub at each shop. I decided to research the best sub at each place to truly explore each winning sub to give the best idea of what to expect when visiting.

Starting with Cousin Subs, we have some mystery. In my research, I was not able to find the best sub-ranked for Cousins. But it is a mystery to be revealed, subject to the discretion of their sub-makers themselves. Next in line is Jersey Mike’s, habiting the first-place Club Sub, referenced in Allrecipes.com, To follow is Jimmy Johns, where Tastingtable.com recognizes The J.J.B.L.T. as the best of their sub excellence. Lastly, we go to Subway, where they shine with their top pick, the Italian B.M.T., as noticed by Timeout.com. But which sub-place reigns superior? The flavors and criteria will tell for Neenah’s sub-showdown.

(Organized in Alphabetical Order)

At Cousin Subs on 667 S Green Bay Road in Neenah, the workers suggested their Italian Special as the top sub served hot. Despite initial technical difficulties, the staff provided exceptional service, creating a dimly lit yet comfortable atmosphere. The sub was rich in flavor and freshness, though slightly salty due to the salami. Despite this, it was well-presented and had a great texture. The sub was prepared quickly, allowing visibility into the entire process. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience, earning a 4/5 star rating. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Jersey Mike’s at 1169 W Winneconne Avenue in Neenah offered a unique back-to-front ordering approach, adding to the interest of the visit. The atmosphere was comfortable with natural lighting, and the excellent customer service added to the positive experience. The club sub tasted amazing, combining various flavors perfectly, and the ingredients were fresh, cut right in front of customers. The bread texture was a mix of soft and crunchy, making it a standout. The experience exceeded expectations, earning a 6/5  star rating. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐?

Jimmy John’s on 911 Tullar Road in Neenah catered to those on the go, offering fast service and the option to pre-order and pay in cash. The taste was fresh and crisp, although slightly imbalanced in veggie-to-protein ratio. The atmosphere was decent, slightly dark, with mostly natural lighting. Despite this, the customer service was commendable, and the workers were efficient. Overall, it earned a 4/5 star rating for its freshness and convenience. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Subway, located at 1155 W Winneconne Avenue in Neenah and connected to Walmart, holds nostalgic value but falls short in taste. The Italian B.M.T lacked appeal because of the use of sweet pickles and subpar ratio and presentation. Nevertheless, the service was friendly and relaxed, creating a classic 2000s sub-shop atmosphere. Consequently, because of sub-quality, it received a 3/5 star rating despite its exceptional service and nostalgic ambiance. ⭐⭐⭐

Ultimately, Jersey Mike’s secured first place, Cousin Subs took second, Jimmy John’s placed third, and Subway landed in fourth. Preferences may differ, so exploring other shops might reveal a new favorite or solidify existing preferences. But in the end, I hope patrons enjoyed this review, and I recommend adding comments on sub-shop preferences.
